Location: Seal Cove, Mount Desert Island, Acadia, Maine, USA
Accommodations: Lake Front Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 7)
Located on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island, this cottage offers proximity to all the other attractions of the island and Acadia National Park. The cottage shares 7.4 acres and 800 plus or minus feet of shorefront on Hodgdon Pond with a second cottage.
The cottages are widely separated from each other. Each has frontage on the lake and its own dock, two kayaks, and a canoe. In addition, there is a utility rowboat at Cottage 1 that guests staying there are welcome to use. Each cottage has three bedrooms and two baths, and contains over 1400 square feet of living space. The cottages are fully furnished and each has a washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, radio, television, DVD, and charcoal grill. There is a booster seat, Port-a-crib and child gate in each cottage, and a swing-set and sand box on the property. We supply all linens and will send an inventory of each cottage on request or with the lease.
There are also two small ponds, a sitting area, swing set and sandbox on the property.
Wherever possible, we use "Green" cleaning products, provide supplies made from recycled paper, low-watt bulbs, and implement other ways to reduce our impact on the environment. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has certified Hodgdon Pond Farm as an "Environmental Leader."
Encompassing over 7.4 acres of woods and pasture with 825 feet of frontage on a 40 acre lake, Hodgdon Pond Farm is private but accessible. Somesville, the center of Mount Desert Island, is only 4.8 miles away. The inlet and outlet of Hodgdon Pond as well as the entire opposite shore are owned and protected by Acadia National Park. Guests can enjoy swimming, fishing, and canoeing as well as seeing birds and animals including eagles, osprey, kingfisher, loon, beaver, fox, raccoon and deer, and occasionally otter, moose, and bear.
The extraordinary resources of Mount Desert Island await the visitor. Acadia National Park owns over 33,000 acres of land with well-maintained trails and offers regularly scheduled nature walks and trips to outer islands. Boats are available for charter or day trips. Numerous museums, concerts, excellent restaurants, shops and art exhibits provide indoor attractions. We maintain a directory of events and full complement of brochures and maps in each cottage to help you plan your vacation.
